Why wouldn't you?
If
you could change
But one person's life.
Put their struggle
Beside your strife.
If you could cause great joy
Out of a single act.
By following your heart
And relying on that fact.
If you could make but
One small child smile,
While catching his eyes
On a passing aisle.
If you could conquer your soul
By climbing just one mountain.
Or learn what it's like
To share the same fountain.
If you could look inside
First to find fault.
And, by the way, put
Your prejudices to halt.
If you could put your
Childhood hatreds aside.
And learn what it means
To grow inside.
If you could lend your hand
To a soul in its worst days,
To reach into their eyes
And hold their soul in your gaze.
If you could do all these things
And some others too,
Then why, in God's name,
Wouldn't you?
