Our Wake

Our biggest impact
Is not made by what we make
But what in life and love
We give or take.

The craft you set afloat
May be big or small
It matters not to your angels
Much at all.

For through these waters
We all must move
Regardless if the surface
Is choppy or smooth.

As we move through
Our life's lake
We all leave, no matter the size,
A measurable wake.

Some will leave behind
Misfortune, bitterness and pain
Without so much as looking back.
What a shame.

They view the waters they're in
As a pond
Never seeing the impact they've
Made beyond.

Luckier others will leave
Life, light and love
They will surely receive
Blessings from above.

They seem certain of what
They leave behind.
What eternity holds.
And what they will find.

If the pleasure of the moment
Is all you seek
That is all you will find
When you reach the peek.

But, even in that moment
A wave you'll pierce
And the effect on others
Can be fierce.

You're not alone as
Through this surf you glide.
Remember this fact
And let it be your guide.
